INDIE MART @ THE INDEPENDENT THIS SUNDAY

What's more exciting than the Indie Mart being in our 'hood again tomorrow? How 'bout the love the Indie Mart is showing to the Divisadero Corridor on their website?

Check it out:
i love western addy and please rep it all the time. mojo. cc rider. 821. nopa. wazeima. the weird big dollar store on the corner of mcallister. little star. blue jay. abir. lil chihuahu…i cant spell for shit. you get it. addy is rad and i love it. all of it. i love $2 beers at bean bag and 2 for $1 chicken at popeyes on tuesday. love it all.

So, with that said -- why not show Indie Mart some love back? They bought it here because they wanted to give the 'hood a little economic boost, and sure enough they did. This is going to be last Indie Mart at the Independent (they're moving back outdoors to Thee Parkside in June). If you're 21+, then line up, donate $2 to local cancer charities at the door and indie shop 'til you drop -- there's over 40 vendors with some rad stuff to sell. Food, DJs and of course, beer & booze.

The Indie Mart at the Independent (628 Divisadero @ Grove), Sunday, April 26 from 11 am 'til 4 pm.

HAIGHT STREET ART WALK TONIGHT

This event might be a little off the beaten Corridor, but we thought we'd give it a shout out. It's the first Haight St. Art Walk, starting at 5 pm on upper Haight, from Masonic to Stanyan.

FREE to all -- the event features music, art and of course, shopping. Some of the participating venues include Booksmith, Cheap Thrills, Cold Steel, Aqua Surf Shop, the People's Cafe, Buffalo Exchange and more. Stroll on up the hill and see what our neighbors are up to. If the event is a success -- they've got plans to do this on the last Friday of the month every month. Sounds like a plan!

ART OPENING AT CANDYBAR FOR JEANINE ALLPRESS

Stop by the Candybar, San Fran's first dessert lounge, Tuesday night, April 21, from 6-10 pm, for a night of art, wine and of course, desserts.

Art by Jeanine Allpress. The series featured is "Kindred Spirits", inspired by the idea of soul mates and life after death. Multiple layering of acrylic ink on heavy weight paper is used to create shapes and images. Additional layers of ink were painted over the drawings to complete the image.

Come and take a look, meet the artist and enjoy special $5 sparkling cocktails all night long.

The Candybar is located at 1335 Fulton St. @ Divisadero.

FREE MOVIE NIGHT AT ON THE CORNER

On the Corner at 359 Divisadero (@ Oak) does FREE movie night tonight (and every Thursday), starting at 9:30 pm sharp. Tonight's flick is the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles (1974) -- and the On the Corner cafe will even throw in some FREE popcorn.

Come watch Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn cut up on the cafe's 9' x 12' screen and hang out with the locals (and/or other Mel Brooks fans). Drink specials, pizza specials, and did we say popcorn? Oh, yeah.

Check out some more Nights on the Corner -- Tuesday is for knitters and Wednesday is for board games (supplied by neighbor Gamescape, so this ain't exactly your grandmother's board game night).

What was that address again?

Hat tip for this post from our step-sister blog, Cheap and Easy San Francisco. They dig up CHEAP and EASY and sometimes downright FREE stuff to do in San Fran every day.

$1.99 CHICKEN AND BISCUITS AT POPEYES

The Divisadero Corridor has done its part to beat back every franchise that comes our way. But if you're going to let one franchise slip in (and we're not sure how they did it), we can't think of a better one than Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen at 599 Divisadero.

Those $1.99 two-pieces plus a biscuit deals sure are good after cheap beers at the Bean Bag Coffee House or a couple of designer cocktails at Mini Bar. Not to mention a couple of martinis at NOPA before all that's left on your person are a few damp singles and a pocket of laundry change. Finding the wait for Nopalito too long tonight? Hey, Popeyes is just around the corner.

We love the smell of Popeyes wafting down the DC on a breezy day. It keeps things real and goes so well with Lilly's BBQ, the smog check station and the pot club. Any more questions about why we call the Divisadero Corridor San Francisco's most eclectic neighborhood?

FLAT FOR RENT -- IT'S GORGEOUS

We don't usually do this, but we know this building and have to say it's a San Francisco gem -- just steps from the Divisadero Corridor, on a quiet and tree-lined block of Broderick Street.

Full details -- and photos -- are on Craigslist.

This is a 2-bedroom unit in a 2-unit Edwardian (built in 1893, which technically makes it a Victorian, but it's bright and spacious in the Edwardian style). It's one of only 18,000 San Francisco buildings to have survived the 1906 earthquake -- so a lot of history here, and it's pretty sturdy! There's garage parking for 1 car, lots of storage, laundry and a roof deck. Plus a working fireplace and great owners, who live upstairs.

1 cat ok. $2,500 a month. Open house this Saturday, April 11, from 11 am to noon, or call Kathy at 415-606-2085 for a private showing. It's available May 9th -- and won't last. Apartments like these are few and far between, so if you're looking for a beautiful home in San Francisco's most eclectic neighborhood -- here it is.

Complete details -- and photos -- on Craigslist.
